TRIRIGA Insights: US Government asks suppliers to track carbon emissions Posted: 28 Jul 2010 03:18 PM PDT The U.S. Government announced that it will ask all of its 600,000 suppliers to provide greenhouse gas (GHG) data. This program, initiated by President Obama, calls for federal agencies to "establish an integrated strategy towards sustainability in the Federal Government and to make reduction of greenhouse gas emissions a priority for federal agencies."  In accordance with the program, the General Services Administration (GSA) has prepared a recommendation of how the Federal Government should track and use GHG emission data from suppliers. Due to the fact that buildings produce 48% of GHG, executives and professionals responsible for real estate and facilities assets must understand how their organization's ability to supply the world's largest consumer will be affected.
